I plant my salads in these orange boxes, which I prepare like a mini raised bed. I cover the crates with curtains and bind a rubber band around against wind and weather. This leaves snails, birds and vermin away. I place the crates on small elevations, so nothing comes crawling inside. That even goes on the balcony.
I put the boxes out with plenty of newspaper paper (one can also put cardboard underneath), over it come dried small branches or leaves and over it the earth. So everything is airy, but nevertheless tight. Do not pour too heavily, otherwise you make everything leak again. So far, I have planted two such boxes with lettuce, already for the second time. When everything is harvested or the salad shoots, everything comes out and
it is sown again.
